We attended the meeting of the planners to discuss adoption of the Thrale Street Conservation Area. The agenda showed clearly that Thrale Street would be discussed not earlier than one hour after the commencement of the meeting at 7 pm. We arrived at 7:30 pm and within a few minutes a break in the meeting was called by the Chair. He approached us with a smile and said that the Committee had the authority to change the agenda. They had done so and waived through the re-adoption of the Thrale Street Conservation Area without any discussion. Firstly, there were Counsellors present who knew of our proposal and who did not speak up and, secondly, this sly change of the agenda timetable was a deliberate ruse preventing our democratic right to be heard.
We note that putting the cart before the horse is acceptable in Southwark.
